SUNDAY SCHOOL PRINCIPLES
Our pastoral staff strongly supports Sunday School. We believe Sunday School plays a vital role in the maturity of the local church. You cannot find the term "Sunday School" in the Bible, but we believe a growing Christian believes in its principles. Below are five principles of Sunday School.
Principle of Participation
Sunday School serves as a great opportunity to dive into the Word of God more! An added blessing is that you are with your brothers and sisters, growing together. The more involved you are in the local church, the more you will love her. The same with the Word of God...the more you dig, the more you love it. Usually, the people who are the most bored with church are the ones who participate the least.
Principle of Articulation
Unlike in a worship service, you have the chance to speak your mind on spiritual issues. In a typical corporate worship service, one listens only. In Sunday School, you have the chance to carry on a dialogue with others in a classroom. Do not be afraid to share your thoughts while you interact with others. We encourage discussion between class members. We want our teachers to serve as facilitators of discussion and not dictate to the members the entire class time.
Principle of Deliberation
We want people to THINK! We encourage students to prepare for the lesson during the week. THINK! When the Bible is opened in class, all are ready to share what The Spirit has laid upon their hearts. As discussion takes place, THINK! As you exit the classroom, continue to THINK! As the week progresses, apply The Word in your daily living. THINK!
Principle of Variation
You will be exposed to other believer's points of view on the Scripture and life. You may be surprised you do not know all the answers to life's many twists and turns. If you listen to others, you will learn!
Principle of Association
Being an active member of a class connects you with others who are like-minded. Let your fellow class members hold you accountable while you do the same for them. It also opens avenues for people to share their problems, concerns, and ideas on how to better serve Jesus as a body. People in the local church who feel the most isolated are the ones who do not associate with a particular Sunday School class.
